Susana’s Platform

Border Security and Immigration: As a candidate for State Senate, I understand that Illegal immigration and border security are your greatest concern.  I am deeply committed to safeguarding our borders and ensuring the integrity of our immigration system. Border security and immigration control are not just national issues—they directly impact the safety and prosperity of our communities right here in our state. We must enforce our laws and protect our borders from illegal entry. As President Reagan once said, “A nation that cannot control its border is not a nation.” As your senator, I will work tirelessly to support measures that strengthen border security, including deploying necessary resources such as the National Guard when needed.

Furthermore, I will advocate for policies prioritizing legal immigration channels, ensuring that those who come to our country do so through proper vetting and adherence to our laws. Together, we must take decisive action to protect our sovereignty and uphold the rule of law. As your state senator, I will be a steadfast advocate for the safety and security of our state and our nation.

Economy and Inflation: I understand the significant challenges facing our economy, with inflation spiraling out of control and everyday essentials becoming increasingly unaffordable for hardworking families. The impacts are palpable, from the rising costs of groceries and household utilities to soaring insurance premiums. While inflation is a national issue, there are steps we can take at the state level to alleviate the burden on taxpayers. We must repeal the Energy Transition Act and The Clean Fuels Standard, which only serve to exacerbate financial strain without tangible benefits for the average citizen. I am committed to advocating for the repeal of these burdensome laws to provide much-needed relief to our communities and promote economic stability for all residents of our state. Together, let's work towards a future where the cost of living is manageable and every individual has the opportunity to thrive.

Secondly, we can stop increasing taxes and even authorize a “sales tax holiday” for a limited period. This would allow you to keep more of your money while our state is flush with revenue.

Lastly, I will advocate for and support fewer regulation being placed on our small business owners. Without costly regulation and red tape, they can keep costs down for their customers while still making a living wage for themselves and their employees. I will never support or vote for a paid Family Medical Leave Act.

Healthcare Access: Access to quality healthcare is becoming harder and harder in New Mexico. Our legislature has done nothing but drive doctors out of our state with some of the highest medical malpractice rates in the country and the lowest Medicaid reimbursement rates in the nation. We need to make it affordable for doctors to practice here in New Mexico. Women have been disproportionately affected by this crisis as OBGYNs have seen the greatest increase in cost and have left many parts of our state with no OBGYNs. I will support legislation that brings tort reform and fixes our medical malpractice situation.

Children, Youth, and Families Department (CYFD): CYFD needs a complete overhaul. Our children under the care of CYFD are put in unsafe and dangerous conditions daily. This must stop! There must be strict accountability and oversight of CYFD. I fully support the establishment of an Ombudsman program, and I will introduce legislation prioritizing the welfare of New Mexican children above all else. My sole focus is on advocating for the best interests of the child. Our children need advocates for their needs, not advocates for the abusive adults in their lives.

Crime and Public Safety: As a business owner in New Mexico, I witness firsthand the devastating impact of crime on our communities and livelihoods. We cannot afford to tolerate a revolving-door justice system that allows career criminals to return to our streets. I am committed to introducing and supporting legislation that keeps these dangerous individuals behind bars, ensuring our communities' safety and law-abiding citizens' protection.

Education: Despite having some of the region's highest-paid teachers and best benefits, New Mexico ranks last in educating our children. It is time to identify and overcome the barriers holding our students back. I'm committed to supporting proven strategies that empower our children to reach and exceed grade-level benchmarks. Poverty should never be an excuse for educational disparity—we must raise our expectations and watch our children thrive.
